Mindset Determines Everything

Mindset Determines Everything

Today I want to talk about mindset and how it determines everything especially when it comes to your health and fitness but also in life as well.

If you can get your mindset right then everything else will follow.

The problem I see is that people come in wanting to lose the weight, do the high intensity training or want an eating plan but they don’t get the mindset right first.

What we need to be doing is working on our self and on our mind before even starting an exercise program. This is an ongoing thing: You don’t just suddenly master your mindset, we need to constantly work on improving it.

If we can get the mindset right first then things will really start to happen and success will follow.

The 4 Areas to focus on are:

  1. Self Awareness

  2. Circle of Influence

  3. Self Talk

  4. Setting Expectations

Self Awareness

One of the most important things we need to be is self aware. When we are self aware we can then start to identify areas of ourselves that we need to work on.

Whether that is how we talk about ourselves, how we look at ourselves or how we talk about other people and see life in general. If we are not aware of something then we can’t change it.

If we can take a step back and focus on our self awareness then we can then make a decision as to whether we need to change what we are doing or not.

Self awareness covers a lot of mediums like nutrition, how our body moves and how it feels when we move.

But i believe it is especially important for us to be self aware around our mindset, how we think, how we talk about ourselves, how we treat and react to other people.

Circle of influence

This is one of the most important components to achieving success.

You want to surround yourself with the right people. Whether that is in business, socially, mentally or for weight loss and fitness, you need to make sure you are surrounding yourself with the right people as they are going to uplift you, support you and make sure that you stick to your journey.

The first thing you need to do is identify who is in your circle of influence. Who are the people you spend the most time with?

You will be surprised who you spend most of your time with!

Once you identify who is in your circle of influence, then you can make a decision as to whether or not you should be spending so much time with these people, or if should you be spending more time with other people who are going to support you with achieving your goal.

Self Talk

Self talk is really important when it comes to weight loss, how we perceive ourselves and even how we treat different workouts.

When we talk about self talk what we mean is the type of language we use.

Use standing in front of a mirror for example, what sort of language do you use to describe yourself? Are you happy with what you see or do you look in the mirror and say i hate looking in the mirror?

If you do a particular workout or exercise what sort of language do you use, do you say i hate thrusters or i hate burpees? This constant negativity and negative self talk determines how that workout is going to be.

Another example might be that you hate Mondays. The amount of people who say they hate Mondays is crazy, of course you hate Mondays if you say you hate Mondays every time!!

Even if it means you have to trick yourself into believing it initially, over time things will start to change and before you know it you will love Mondays and Burpees!!

Setting Expectations

We see it all the time at the gym where people come in wanting to lose a whole load of weight in the shortest amount of time possible or they want to run a marathon in 12 weeks time and they have never run before.

The actual goal of wanting to lose weight or run a marathon might be a great goal but is the time frame realistic?

The problem with not setting our expectations is that you might start off with all good intensions.

You start training every day, eating really healthy, cut out alcohol, cut out coffee but then after a week it all becomes too hard and you fall off the wagon.

As a result you beat yourself up because you have dropped off the band wagon then 6 months later you have to start all over again.

Where as if you set your expectations from the beginning, start really simple and really basic and then start to build. Have lots of little successes which are going to grow into a big success!
